Brazil: Rio begins demolition for 2016 Olympics

I’m rooting for Brazil to be able to successfully pull-off the World Cup 2014 and the Rio Olympics in 2016. Of course, like everyone else, I harbor a certain degree of skepticism that Brazil will actually be able to do it, but I’m hopeful. Word has emerged that the government has begun work to demolish an elevated ring road around Rio de Janeiro’s port area, to be replaced by a 7km tunnel, ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games. My question is: Why put the people of Rio through that misery, especially ahead on the World Cup? My response: Bad idea, really bad idea. But, I remain optimistic.
