Around these parts, people were very pleased with the result of the first leg of the Repechaje between New Zealand and Mexico, and Uruguay and Jordan. Both Latin American teams are well represented in Miami. And although neither match was competitive, they represent the end of a qualifying process for next year’s World Cup, which began almost unnoticed more than two years ago with Belize’s 5-2 victory over Montserrat. Soon, the field will be set, the seedings will be determined, and the punditry will begin in earnest, along with the final preparations for the Cup. I, for one, can’t wait.
